MBBR Moving Bed Biofilm Reactors are commonly used for industrial wastewater treatment applications. They provide pretreatment of organics in wastewater systems. MBBR systems can be integrated with industrial and municipal treatment systems for BOD removal, nitrification, and denitrification.

MBBR systems consist of biofilm carriers that provide a protected surface area for the acclimation process of bacteria. The carriers are constructed of high-density polyethylene and have an effective life if over fifteen years. The micro-organisms are continuously sloughed off the carriers and discharged with the treated water, making MBBR systems ideal for the pretreatment of wastewater streams that contain organics.
